Parents, your Wildcat’s spring semester at the University of Arizona is now well underway. February is the perfect time for students to explore the many resources and opportunities on campus before the stress of March Midterms arrives! Encourage your student to expose themselves to as many stress-reducing, fun-inducing avenues on campus as possible this month so they have that knowledge under their belt when they need it later! One department at the University that can fill many of these needs is Campus Recreation. With two recreation centers on campus and countless opportunities for students to engage in health and wellness, Campus Rec can help your student find ways to stress less and enjoy more at Arizona.

During our February Self-Love month at Campus Recreation, different program areas are offering a wide variety of promotions, workshops, and classes (many of them free or discounted); read below to discover ways your Wildcat can engage in self-love this month and build healthy habits to help them the rest of the semester!

Rest and Relaxation

This Valentine's Day, treat your Wildcat to a massage from RecSPA! RecSPA at the REC on 6th & Highland offers various massages such as Deep Tissue to relieve tightness, Swedish for relaxation, and Hot Stone to relieve stress.  Appointments range from 30 minutes to two hours. Book online between February 1st and 14th, and receive 14% OFF your purchase (use the promo code LOVESPA14 for the discount).

Wellness workshops are offered through Campus Rec to aid in students’ relaxation and awareness. Yoga Nidra is a meditation class during which participants are guided through a journey of self-awareness while resting comfortably on the floor. The first class of 2020 is on Feb. 5 and only costs $7! Your student can register online by visiting our website.

Healthy Eating Habits

Cooking on Campus is a student-led organization that teaches students how to cook nutritionally-dense snacks and meals. Classes are held at the REC’s Instructional Kitchen. In each class, your student cooks a meal and then gets to eat it too! There are two classes in February: “Eat Your Heart Out” on Feb. 4 and “Meal Prep Boss” on Feb. 18. The fee per class is only $7!

Debunking Fad Diets is a FREE informative talk on the pros and cons of popular nutritional plans like Whole 30, Keto, and Paleo. This talk will be held at the REC on Feb. 12.

Fitness and Recreation

Stand-Up Paddleboard Yoga is the fastest-growing water sport in Tucson, and your Wildcat can now try it right on campus! Participants are led through a beginner Vinyasa yoga class on paddle boards in the REC pool. On Valentine’s Day, Fitness is offering a V-Day couple’s class!

For Lady Wildcats, Fitness offers a well-being and self-efficacy focused workshop, Strong Women, in which participants explore the benefits of resistance training and receive a weight room orientation. The first session is on Feb. 11 at NorthREC on Mabel & Fremont; registration is only $7 on the website.

For students looking to build a skill and advance their fitness ability over the course of a semester, Campus Rec has non-credit, instructional Activity Classes.  The registration deadline for many of these classes is the beginning of February, so encourage your student to visit our website to explore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Latin Salsa Dance, Krav Maga, and Martial Arts.
