It seems like many students have a preconceived idea of what a college student should look like or act like, and if they don’t fit within that idea, they don’t belong.  However, there’s no one way to be a Wildcat.  There is a place for everyone to connect or belong at the University of Arizona.

The University of Arizona believes every student should feel like they matter, that they are heard, and that they belong.  There are many paths that students can take to connect to campus; they can join groups, do internships, work, talk to their advisors or faculty. The possibilities are endless.  Our Welcome and year round initiatives can help students find their path at any point during their college journey.

All over campus students, and their families should be able to see visible signs that there is a place for everyone.  We have designed artwork that is displayed in a number of places that should encourage students to ask questions, and find connections.

Student Success & Retention Innovation (SSRI) wants to help connect students, and make them feel heard.  One of the ways we try to help is through the SOS program.  Students (and their families) can ask any question about any subject and get a response.  Students can ask how to join clubs, and how to talk to the right staff or faculty on campus.  SOS can connect students with peer mentoring (through the new Thrive Center), with the tutors or learning specialists to help them academically through the THINK TANK or let them know about the other resources on campus.   We also send out a regular newsletter to first and second year students to let them know what is happening on campus, and encourage them to connect.

Let your student know there is a place for them, they may just not have found it yet.
