What do you say to your student when they are confused about something on campus?

Talk to SOS! (Watch video)

We are pretty friendly, and like talking to people. During the first half of the Fall semester SOS has worked with more than 1,000  students, family  and community members.  We have helped students figure out issues with living situations, helped calculate grades, provided dining advice and been a sounding board when students are concerned about all the things thrown their way.   Students and families alike can reach out to us about anything Arizona related, and we are happy to help.  If we don’t know the answer to a question or it’s something out of our hands we will make sure to connect people with the right resources and follow up to make sure it all works out.  Learn more about SOS.

What you didn’t know you needed to know ( and can ask SOS about):

Registration-  Students can register for classes in November.  This means that balances need to be paid, and they need to have all holds cleared before they can register.    You can find more about registration & holds here: https://sos.arizona.edu/your-answers

What are holds?  - If a student hasn’t done something (signed paperwork, not turned in immunization record, met with their advisor) they MAY have a hold on their account.  They can check this on UAccess, and should get it taken care of ASAP.

Not planning on returning? While we want all Wildcats to stay and have a positive experience we know sometimes students need to leave to find their right fit.  Make sure students have taken care of all processes if they are not returning.

Figuring out grades – Most students can track their grades in D2L (Desire to Learn), but sometimes have to do some math to figure out their average.  They can’t give you access to their account, but can share how they are doing.  We can also help them figure out the grades if they are having trouble.

Campus Health & CAPS- Counseling & Psychological Services – We have staff on campus who can work with students that are finding managing stress and their mental health difficult.  We also have a health center, which is the closest place for students who live on campus to go when they need to get checked out.
