Did you know that the UA BookStore is university-owned?  What this means is that all purchases made at any of the BookStore locations support The University of Arizona and Tucson communities through scholarships, funding for students clubs and organizations, learning and literacy program, student employment, athletics, alumni and other university programs and initiatives.  This is the reason our first pillar is “Community and Culture,” because everything we do is to support community events on our campus and Tucson community.  Since 2007, we have contributed over $84 million to organizations such as student government, cultural centers and to scholarship funds.  Our 2019 Children’s Literacy program supported 76 literacy events which impacted 9,378 community members including children and adults, as well as facilitated donations of 18,507 books to Make Way for Books!  We are excited that we will be bringing this program back in January 2023 by hosting Storytime events and visiting Title 1 schools throughout the Tucson community.  We are extremely proud of being the official bookseller of the Tucson Festival of Books which is a community-wide celebration of literature.  Over 100,000 people attend this event, this year it will be held in-person on March 4-5, 2022.  The BookStore has over six tents throughout campus to sell books from presenting authors.  We host CATS Fiesta (young readers), cocktail event for Friends of the Festival, Storybook parade, children’s character breakfast, author signings, and literacy activities throughout the weekend.  Furthermore, Kitty Martinez has created relationships with local Tucson businesses.  We feature products from Cheri’s Desert Harvest, Annotated Aubrey, Eastland Alley Design Co., and Ben’s Bells to name a few.  These partnerships allow us to bring in our local Tucson flare into our BookStore.  We strive to remain an independent university-owned BookStore because it will allow us to do even more for both the campus and Tucson community.
