THINK TANK Welcome

Dear Wildcat Parents and Families,

This academic year is off to a strong start, but in a very unique way. As the semester begins with mostly online coursework, THINK TANK has been busy all summer to make sure we can provide all of our services in an online environment. Traditionally, we offer in person services such as: tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Writing Center, and many others. This year, I am happy to share with you that ALL of these services are available to students online!

Here is a summary of what is available for your student:

  • FREE drop-in tutoring for Math courses up through Calculus Two, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Spanish, French, Accounting and Economics. 
  • The Writing Center provides FREE 25 minute appointments for writing support across the curriculum. 
  • Private tutoring appointments are available for $35 per hour.  Group tutoring is another a fee based option. 
  • Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a FREE service embedded in many courses, including many science courses.  SI Leaders--students who have been successful in the course and are trained in cooperative learning techniques and group management skills--host study groups that are a great way to study and review the course content in a fun and interactive environment.  Results demonstrate that attendance at 3+ sessions improves retention rates (93% vs. 83% when compared to similar students).   • Academic Skills Tutors share successful academic practices, as well as help students adapt to college life. Academic Skills Tutors help with time management, note-taking, reading strategies, and exam preparation.  The Academic Skills Tutors and the workshops they lead are available for FREE.
  • Academic Coaching is available to students for a fee.  Academic Coaching sessions provide students an opportunity to talk about both academic and non-academic topics as they transition into the UA or as they transition into more demanding coursework. 

 

THINK TANK continues to support students across all disciplines and majors, we are committed to offering an excellent student experience where students enjoy learning with us. We tend to see about one half of the freshmen class every year and we hope your student visits us online!
