Student Spotlight: Lorena Escalante
Lorena is a first generation native Tucsonan who began her journey at the University of Arizona in the Fall 2019. As a transfer student from Pima Community College, Lorena began her Wildcat Career with enthusiasm, excited to continue her education majoring in Elementary Education with an English as a Second Language endorsement. She is currently in her first semester at the College of Education working on her field work training at Peter Howell Elementary School in a second grade classroom. Lorena originally wanted to pursue a nursing degree, but recognized her calling in education after working as a Reading Instructional Assistant at Homer Davis Elementary. Lorena is a representative for the College of Education Student Council, and works part time for both the UArizona Bookstores and Parent & Family Programs (PFP). Parent & Family programs keeps her busy, with projects like the Paw Prints Newsletter, Family Weekend and regular communication and various events throughout the year. Lorena is appreciative of the many resources available to students on campus, and utilizes the Thrive Center during her free time to study, hangout and meet other students. One of her hobbies is dancing, something she has done for the past 17 years, teaches to young students, and has continued at the University of Arizona enrolled in dance classes. This Spring, she will travel to Hawaii as a participant in the Global Experiential Learning (GEL) program during spring break. Her true passion is her family, her strongest system of support and encouragement.
