Staying Healthy over Thanksgiving Break and Beyond
The fall semester is winding down and that means holiday breaks! This time of the year is crucial for students to finally take a break and unwind from all the stress they have been struggling with over the past several months.
During the holiday season, it is important for students to remember to take care of themselves both mentally and physically. When students are home, they tend to still think about all the schoolwork they will have when they get back from Thanksgiving break. It is a never-ending cycle for students all around campus.
Parents and family members can help students recharge over the break. Make sure your young adult gets the extra sleep they need, has access to healthy foods, and feels loved and supported. Students look forward to coming home and relaxing, so making sure the environment is prepared for them is really important.
Physical exercise is also a great way to release built up tension. Campus Recreation will not close until Thanksgiving Day so students on campus up to the day before still have access. But even something as simple as a brisk walk outside at home can help students destress from school!
This time of year brings many transitions back and forth between home and school. From Thanksgiving break, it is a quick shift back to school (and final exams!) before jumping straight into the winter holidays, and the mind tends to take a turn on its own. Going back and forth like that can truly make someone more stressed out than they think. Campus Recreation is here to help students prepare for these transitions.
Zen Day is an event designed strictly for students and focuses on their well-being. As students enter the REC between 3p and 5p on December 10, they will be offered calming activities such as painting on a canvas, a “create your own” hot cocoa station, pictures with Santa, a yoga class, and finally, therapy dogs! This event is FREE and requires no registration, so your Wildcat can take a moment to feel comforted and hopefully leave feeling stress-free.
Campus Recreation is here for the students. We want them to feel safe and welcome in every single way! As our number one priority, if they are happy, we are too.
