Have you ever struggled to write a paper, text message, or maybe even a grocery list? We’ve all been there. For many students, it can especially feel daunting to start, revise, or even share their writing with another set of eyes as they navigate different class expectations and time constraints. But the THINK TANK Writing Center is here to help!

The Writing Center’s trained and certified peer tutors offer helpful feedback on any kind of writing at any point in the process—even before there are words on the page. We offer three different appointment styles to help every writer grow during their time at the University of Arizona:

  • 45-minute in-person appointments in Bear Down Building: our tutors get acquainted with your student’s writing, answer questions, identify patterns, make recommendations, and help your student come up with a plan for moving forward. Tutors are trained to support a variety of genres, including but not limited to: research papers, personal statements, application essays, lab reports, theses, resumes, presentations, creative writing, and professional emails.
  • 30-minute Zoom appointments: this service functions the same as an in-person appointment but gives your student remote flexibility. Both in-person and Zoom appointments can help your student at whatever stage of the writing process, including reading over an assignment prompt together, planning, and brainstorming.
  • Asynchronous Feedback Loop: your student submits their work to a queue and answers questions that help guide tutor feedback. For example: What aspects of your writing would you like us to focus on? Our tutors share helpful margin comments within 3-5 business days and a summary of their recommendations.

In addition to these standard services, the Writing Center also hosts drop-in style appointments across campus in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, African American Student Affairs, and Native American Student Association.

Later this month, encourage your student to attend Write Nite happening October 20th from 6:00-9:00pm in the Main Library. This will be a casual, friendly environment where your student can get immediate help with their writing.

Later in the semester, students can attend Global Write Nite December 1st from 6:00-8:00pm in the Main Library. This will be a space specifically for international students to connect, grab coffee and snacks, and receive support on a writing project.

Students can visit writingcenter.arizona.edu to find more information and schedule sessions.
