STUDENT PERMIT REFUND INFORMATION

Following the decision on Friday to move all classes online for the remainder of this semester, we want to make you aware of the financial options set up for students who have purchased a parking permit. There is approximately 20% of the parking permit year remaining before your parking permit would have normally expired. Historically, Parking and Transportation Services would not allow permits to be returned after the first week in April as the prorated refund value would be at $0 at that time. Due to the current situation, Parking and Transportation Services is modifying its policy to allow students to choose from one of the below options.

  • Students can get half of the value of the remaining days as a traditional refund. If you choose to take this option, this decision will need to be made by the end of the business day on March 20, 2020, and communicated to Parking and Transportation Services. Here's an example of what we mean by this: If your permit originally costs $100, there's a calculated value of $20 remaining on the permit, you'd get a $10 refund in this scenario. Remember, traditionally the calculated value of the permit was $0 after the first week of April. Your parking permit would be deactivated in this scenario.
    • For clarity, the 10% is applied to your original purchase price (not the existing balance) this translates to:
    • Garage permit holders, original permit price $726 x 10% = $72.60 refund back now
    • Lot Spec permit holders, original permit price $610 x 10% = $61.00 refund back now
    • Zone 1 permit holders, original permit price $479 x 10% = $47.90 refund back now
    • South of 6th permit holders, original permit price $479 x 10% = $47.90 refund back now

OR

  • Students can choose to get the full calculated value of the remaining days as a credit towards next year's parking permit. If you choose to take this 20% credit, the decision will also need to be made by the end of the business day on March 20, 2020, and communicated to Parking and Transportation Services. Here's an example of what we mean by this: If your permit originally costs $100, there's approximately 20% of the time remaining on your permit, you'd get a $20 credit towards next year's permit in this scenario.
    • For clarity, the 20% is applied to your original purchase price (not the existing balance) this translates to:
    • Garage permit holders, original permit price $726 x 20% = $145.20 credit to Fall 2020
    • Lot Spec permit holders, original permit price $610 x 20% = $122.00 credit to Fall 2020
    • Zone 1 permit holders, original permit price $479 x 20% = $95.80 credit to Fall 2020
    • South of 6th permit holders, original permit price $479 x 20% = $95.80 credit to Fall 2020

No action is required if you plan to continue to use your parking permit. If no action is taken, your permit will remain active until its expiration date.

If you would like to take advantage of one of the options above, please reach out by email to our office by 5pm PT, Friday, March 20:
