Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives: Supporting Students’ career Needs

The University of Arizona is the first four-year public university in the state of Arizona to be federally recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)

What does this mean?

This federal designation comes from the U.S. Department of Education and recognizes our enrollment of Hispanic undergraduate students, which currently exceeds 25%.  For the University of Arizona, the designation means so much more!  We strive to ensure that the University of Arizona is welcoming, supportive, and affirming of our students’ diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs.

Fostering Students' Career Success

In an effort to support students in being prepared for career-related opportunities, we are hosting weekly virtual career mentoring sessions. Thanks to a partnership between Student Engagement and Career Development (SECD), the Guerrero Student Center (GSC) and HSI Initiatives, we are providing resources virtually through Zoom.

When: Every Tuesday until May 5, 2020, from 9:30am-12:20pm (MST)

Who: Our Peer Coach, Karina Soriano, can assist students one-on-one with all things career, including resumes, cover letters, interviews, and the job/internship search.

How: Students can schedule a virtual appointment with Peer Coach, Karina Soriano to receive one-on-one assistance by clicking here. Students can also sign up for our topic specific presentations, which occur on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30pm (MST), by clicking here.

All students are welcomed and encouraged to utilize this resource.
