Graduation is an exciting time – for students, parents and family. But not every student has their next step lined up and that’s okay! The job search process often takes longer than expected.

Fortunately, Student Engagement & Career Development (SECD) has some tips for graduating seniors still seeking their next opportunity.

Just-in-Time Career Fairs

Every employer attending Arizona’s Career Mixer is hiring for opportunities right now. They’re looking to fill full- and part-time positions as well as summer internships. Not only that these opportunities are throughout Arizona, with permanent remote positions that would allow students to work outside Arizona while living in Arizona. Hosted by the University of Arizona in partnership with Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University.

Arizona’s Career Mixer is Thursday, June 10, 3 – 6 PM.

Students can register for free on Handshake but the event is hosted in Zoom.

Career Support Options

SECD offers three different direct support options for students. With these options, they will get personalized support from professionals so they can confidently take their next step.

  1. Submit a resume and more in the new Career Document Dropbox. We accept resumes, cover letters, or LinkedIn URL. Students can expect to get personalized feedback in 2-3 business days.
  2. Make an appointment with a career educator if your student needs help navigating any obstacles in their career journey or help in upgrading their application materials.
  3. Drop into LifeLab - virtually or in-person to get quick direction and support.

Job Search Support

If your student is looking for a little more structure or support, we have two options that will motivate any reluctant student and get them excited about the job search.

SBS411: Design Your Search: This 1-credit, upper-division course is ideal if your student needs an upper-division credit and/or needs time to devise a job search plan. This course ticks all the boxes. In 7 short weeks, your student will leave this course with an honest-to-goodness job search plan to enact right away or to have ready as they search for post-graduation jobs in the fall.

Job Search Jumpstart is a 14 day email-based program designed to get your student moving in the right direction by having them work on the 4 most essential job application materials: resume, cover letter, interview and online profile. The program moves at a clip with support the entire way providing feedback, suggestions, and general encouragement. There are three sessions currently scheduled, starting on June 2 and running through July.

Finally, Student Engagement & Career Development supports students up to one year post-graduation. So if at any time, your students’ plans change – whether they decide to pursue graduate school or want to change their career goals, we’re here to help!
