Celebrating APIDA Heritage Month
The Asian Pacific American Student Affairs (APASA) cultural center is celebrating APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Heritage Month for the month of April. Although this month is traditionally celebrated in May, in collaboration with the University of Arizona, we chose April so that we can honor the many cultures that form our community here on campus during the academic year. One way that the University of Arizona has brought attention to APIDA culture is through the creation of a new APIDA Heritage Month logo. It was created over a series of meetings that incorporated stakeholders from the APASA community to make sure that the logo used images that truly represent the diversity of our community. Another way that APASA will recognize members of our community in the upcoming month is through APASA's Lotus Laureate & Leadership Awards Ceremony, where we will highlight members of the 2021 graduating class as well as members of our community that have made exceptional contributions to the APIDA community on campus. We also want to continue to support students that have not yet graduated by reminding them that the center can connect individuals to resources on campus, provide mentorship, and is a space that cherishes diversity. For the month of April be sure to keep an eye out for fun events and enriching information related to APIDA culture, by following UAAPASA via Instagram and check out upcoming events and initiatives from community organizations, partners and APASA HERE. Also, please consider stopping by the U of A bookstore to pick up some APIDA Heritage Merchandise, bear down in style and support APASA (as a small portion of the proceeds will be donated to the cultural center).
