ASUA: Serving Wildcats during the Pandemic
Jan. 20, 2021
The 2020-2021 academic year has been trying for our Wildcat students, staff, and family members. However, the Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA) has been able to adapt and continue providing critical services and opportunities for students. Some of the things we have done are:
- Campus Pantry continued to provide fresh supplemental groceries to students and staff in need. The Pantry moved into a larger space in the Student Union that will also hold Campus Closet (free professional clothing bank). The team also put together https://basicneeds.arizona.edu, a central site for all of Tucson community resources.
- Wildcat Events Board (WEB) moved all of its programming online and led efforts to provide community-building resources for students in isolation housing. Students can follow WEB on Instagram (@uofaweb) or check out WEB’s Virtual Programming Site on the kinds of events WEB will host.
- Student clubs are meeting virtually. We encourage students to visit our new clubs site at https://arizona.campusgroups.com to see all the ASUA-recognized clubs that are available.
- SafeRide, our nightly safety-escort service, is operating on a limited capacity. However, during academic breaks SafeRide partners with Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) to provide students with $15 Lyft codes to get to local grocery stores. SafeRide is also replacing its current fleet with hybrid vehicles that are safer for the environment.
As we move to a more hopeful future, ASUA will continue to live out its mission of serving, engaging, and empowering the student body.
Bear Down!
