Ready for the Spring semester?
It is hard to believe but the fall semester has come and gone already but here we all are looking ahead to the upcoming spring semester. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) is working diligently to ensure Spring 2022 financial aid is ready to be released come the start of January. We know this may spark some questions for you and/or your Wildcat so we’ve summarized a few of the top questions we receive during this time of year for your review:
Is your student thinking about taking a winter class? Winter session financial aid is limited. If your student plans to enroll in the winter session, they may have remaining eligibility for financial aid if they did not enroll full-time for the fall semester. Otherwise, the spring portion of their financial aid may be applied towards winter session charges (which may affect any anticipated spring refund).
Spring 2022 Bursar Student Account Summaries: Begin accessing account balances as early as 12/3/2021 for units enrolled. More Important Dates & Deadlines, including deadlines to pay can be found at https://bursar.arizona.edu/dates/deadlines.
Spring 2022 Financial Aid: The spring portion of accepted aid will begin to be released to Bursar student accounts beginning as early as the week of January 3, 2022. The majority of students will see their accepted financial aid release during the week of January 10th. If your student has not finalized their spring enrollment, we recommend they finalize their enrollment plans soon so their spring aid can be released on time. Reminder, some To Do List items delay the release of accepted financial aid so be sure that your student is checking their UAccess Student Center To Do list, Notices and Holds. Be sure to check out our Know Before You Go page which contains information about the financial aid timeline, To Do List/Holds, FAQs and lots more!
Renewing Scholarships & Financial Aid: Making sure your student is set up for success this spring includes ensuring they will be able to meet renewal requirements for any scholarships they receive. Merit scholarship recipients can review specific Terms and Conditions for their scholarships to make sure they are on track.
Renewing federal and some institutional financial aid eligibility from one semester to the next requires that students meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Learn more about the SAP requirements and process, including the appeal option by visiting our website.[MME(2]
We also highly recommend reviewing our Maximizing Your Time & Money Workshop. This two-part session starts with a review of the student’s Academic Advisement Report, which outlines program requirements and can be used to create a semester-by-semester plan. Next, attendees will learn how to maintain the financial aid they have been offered year over year. Watch a recording of our workshop, or keep an eye out on our events page for our spring sessions and join us!
If you are helping your student in resolving their past due Student Account Balance, we have put together a helpful workshop session to walk you through financing options so our students can persist to graduation. Visit our events page and find our Taking Care of That Past Due Balance Workshop link and notes.
Planning for next year? Don’t forget to file the 2022-2023 FAFSA by our priority filing date of March 1st. If you are stuck and need a bit of help you can watch a recording of our 2022-2023 FAFSA Fundamentals Workshop online.
Did you know that we host a monthly scholarship workshop? Encourage your student to sign up for our Perfecting Your Scholarship Search Workshop, held during Scholarship Season (November – April) on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 2:00-3:00pm MST. RSVP for your date selection at bit.ly/SUWorkshop2122
From the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid to all our Wildcat family members, we are looking forward to seeing you in the spring!
