These families each suffered unimaginable loss as a result of fraternity hazing. They are here to share their stories and to challenge ALL UArizona students, families, staff, faculty, and alumni to take up the fight to end hazing now. If we are not actively part of solving this problem, then we are responsible for its continued persistence. Whether you’ve been hazed, know that hazing is happening on campus, or even if you’ve hazed in the past, we must all actively take part in solving this problem so that no family has to endure this kind of tragedy. Let’s be the generation to end hazing once and for all.
Timothy Piazza died as the result of hazing at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Pennsylvania State University at University Park, Pennsylvania. The incident led to closure of the fraternity's chapter at the university and, as of November 14, 2017, at least 26 members of the fraternity face charges, including involuntary manslaughter.
Maxwell Gruver died in a hazing ritual while pledging at the Louisiana State University chapter of Phi Delta Theta. He reportedly had condiments thrown at him while reciting the Greek alphabet and was forced to drink alcohol if he made mistakes. Phi Delta Theta suspended the university's chapter after the incident and ten men were arrested. Four of the men were indicted on charges of negligent homicide in March 2018
