UAPD Residence Hall and Greek Life Liaison Programs

By: Andrew Valenzuela

Traditionally the only interaction students have with police officers are when they are victims of crime or are involved in some type of enforcement activity. This type of interaction is not ideal for creating a relationship which fosters open dialog. Realizing this, the University of Arizona Police Department identified a need to interact with students in a non-traditional manner creating positive relationships which promote communication and problem solving.

Since that time, Resident Assistants and hall residents have been able to establish working relationships with UAPD officers assigned to each resident hall. The liaison officers serve as a conduit in which information is shared between UAPD and campus residents.

Liaison officers provide "awareness packets" that are placed for viewing by hall residents and visitors. The awareness packets are theme based and change monthly addressing different crime prevention topics such as personal safety and alcohol/drug awareness.
